Recently I was on the hunt with Husband at Bed Bath and Beyond for an omelet pan. (Being slightly newly married and new to the cooking world, we were overwhelmed with our options.) And of course, trying to figure it out on our own without the assistance of a salesperson. We always seem to get “helped” by the horrible “used car” salesperson, which is never a happy experience. You know the one that is just looking for the sale and not actually giving customer service. Which seems to be the case more often than not these days. Much to our surprise that was not the case this particular time.
Daniel wasn’t looking to make a quick sale and be done with us. He actually talked to us, listened to our needs, told us about his own omelet making experience, and knew way more about pots and pans than any person we have ever met. We walked away from that experience happy knowing we made a good purchase and excited for our soon to be amazing homemade omelets. And I have been telling my friends and family if they need anything in the world of cooking to go visit him.
After leaving the store, happy with our purchase and feeling more knowledge about the world of pots and pans. I started thinking about what good customer service is all about. It is being knowledgeable in your craft, being a good listener, and wanting your customer to walk away with a positive experience. It may sound easy, but when you are working day in and day out, dealing with five million things, it is something easily forgotten. This is where having balance in your work and life so important, as well as, keeping the passion for what would you do. We all want a positive sales experience, not matter which side we are on. We just sometimes need that ah-ha moment to remind us how important it is.
Enjoy…and Create
