Recently I was on the hunt with Husband at Bed Bath and Beyond for an omelet pan.  (Being slightly newly married and new to the cooking world, we were overwhelmed with our options.) And of course, trying to figure it out on our own without the assistance of a salesperson.  We always seem to get “helped” by the horrible “used car” salesperson, which is never a happy experience.  You know the one that is just looking for the sale and not actually giving customer service.  Which seems to be the case more often than not these days.  Much to our surprise that was not the case this particular time.

Daniel wasn’t looking to make a quick sale and be done with us.  He actually talked to us, listened to our needs, told us about his own omelet making experience, and knew way more about pots and pans than any person we have ever met.  We walked away from that experience happy knowing we made a good purchase and excited for our soon to be amazing homemade omelets.  And I have been telling my friends and family if they need anything in the world of cooking to go visit him.

After leaving the store, happy with our purchase and feeling more knowledge about the world of pots and pans.  I started thinking about what good customer service is all about.  It is being knowledgeable in your craft, being a good listener, and wanting your customer to walk away with a positive experience.  It may sound easy, but when you are working day in and day out, dealing with five million things, it is something easily forgotten.  This is where having balance in your work and life so important, as well as, keeping the passion for what would you do.  We all want a positive sales experience, not matter which side we are on.  We just sometimes need that ah-ha moment to remind us how important it is.

Between the day to day task of our lives and the high stresses of the world, it is normal for us as creatives to hit the so called “creative wall”.  It is easy for us to forget that we are inherently creative.  And sometimes we need little reminders.

These reminders can be powerful tools when we are feeling defeated.  It can be an organized working area so that you are working on a “clean slate”.  Or something that is meaningful to you; for example I have photos of my friends to remind me to not take life so seriously.  I sometimes turn on Pandora and pick one of my preset stations depending on what work I am doing.  That little reminder can bring out your innate creativity, your courage, and confidence.

Remember, you’ve done well before and you will do well again.

Every time the holiday season is approaching I start anticipating all the delicious holiday treats that I will get to enjoy.  It is like a cartoon moment when a thought cloud appears and all these images pop up.  YUM!!  This year has been an extra special treat while working with various cake and catering clients.  The flavors and traditional treats have brought my love for desserts to a whole new level!!

A nice treat from traditional cakes and cupcakes are mini cakes.  The perfect amount to appreciate the cake and the fillings.  And the decorations can be simple and festive or complex and over the top.  My favorite for this holiday season, Chocolate Peppermint!

If you are not a cake person there are some sweet treats that look fun and festive.  Sugar cookies are always a crowd pleaser.  And while it is cold outside, the fireplace is roaring, so how about some ice cream treats?  These snowman shooters will be a cute tray passed dessert or on a dessert station.  Or peppermint bonbons are play off the cake pops, but made with ice cream.

Ahhhh…SO MANY desserts and not enough days to eat them all.  Well, I guest that is what New Year’s resolutions are for.

While decking the halls and planning holiday parties I started thinking about what is the most popular hot beverage this time of year, hot chocolate VS hot apple cider. From my Facebook and Twitter research (thank you for all those who responded) it was an overwhelming vote for hot chocolate.  Inspired, I designed a hot chocolate station for a holiday party this past weekend with some sweet additions.

You can never go wrong with the traditional touches

of mini marshmallows or whipped cream.

For tastes of the season…sprinkle some crushed peppermint or stir in a candy cane.  Add a touch of spice with gingerbread…sprinkled on top, stirred in with an edible swizzle stick, or custom mini marshmallows.  And for the adults a dash or two of Baileys Irish Cream (my personal favorite).

And for those who don’t need any warming up during these chilly evenings…Have you ever heard of the famous frozen hot chocolate from Serendipity 3 in New York?  This frosty hot chocolate is a tasty treat!  It is like an infusion of a chocolate milkshake and hot chocolate; spoon required.  Want to try it, but won’t be in New York any time soon, here is the recipe and the mix is available online.

Remember having a s’mores at the campfire as a kid?  I am not sure when this gooey yummy dessert made its come back, but it seems that recently it has become a craze again.

The past few months I have come across a variety of different fancy variations of this simple dessert delight.  Heard of a S’muffin?  This little bite size delight is popping up everywhere!!  Using the traditional ingredients, but giving it a grown up appeal.  And then there is the S’mores Cake!  Thanks to my client, A Wish and a Whisk introducing me to this scrumptious delight, graham cracker cake with a dark chocolate ganache center topped with marshmallow. YUM!

What about tossing out the graham cracker and sticking to the best part of a s’mores – chocolate dipped marshmallows.  But these sweet treats are garnished with different toppings for a luxurious twist.  How do you like your s’mores?
